"MARTHA J. BAKER
"The funeral of Martha J. Baker, who died Sunday at Odessa, Mo., at the age of 87 years, was held at Bidwell this afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services were at the Christianburg church. Interment followed in the Chisman cemetery. She is survived by her brother, C.D. Baker."

"Mary Jane Chrisman (sic) was born in Wilmington, Indiana, Nov. 26, 1830 and grew to womanhood there, marrying John Baker in her nineteenth year.
"Shortly after their marriage they moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, later went back to Indiana and again came back to Iowa where they lived into Mr. Baker's death twenty-five years ago.
"To this marriage were born 12 children, seven of whom lived to maturity. Two died after marriage, one daughter, Mrs. J.T. Wagoner, lived in Odessa. Five, Rev. W.F., Mrs. Greeley Jones, H.P. and Mrs. Will Pearcy of Odessa, and Dimmit, of Ottumwa, Iowa, are left to mourn the loss of a mother.
"A few years after the death of her husband Mrs. Baker with her youngest child, Stella (Mrs. Pearcy) came to Odessa to make their home.
"Mrs. Baker in many ways was a remarkable woman, a woman of strong character and deep affections. A devout member of the Methodist church from her early girlhood, she grew in her belief with the years and was able to conduct a service if there was no one else to do it. Her Bible and her Christian Advocate were her constant companions to her life's end.
"She was a woman of tender heart, and all charitableness, of wide hospitality but more than that and beyond all she was a most devoted mother, and a mother whose sons never let the sun go down without a visit to "mother" whose daughters have been unselfishness itself.
"For almost thirty-five years Mrs. Baker has been more or less of an invalid and having passed through many severe attacks, it was something of a shock when the end came Sunday evening about ten o'clock.
"In the care of Rev. W.F. Baker, H.P. Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Greeley Jones, Cecil Wagoner and W.F. Baker, Jr., her body was taken to Ottumwa, Iowa, to be laid to rest beside her husband."
