KELLY DARNELL BLACK
Kelly Darnell Black, age 83, of Sparks, NV, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2003 at Alterra Care.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Keele Black; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Lloyd Howell; Kellene and Bud Mosconi; and son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Diane Black. He is also survived by five grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and one sister.
One of the last of his kind, Kelly grew up working as a free range cowboy on his father's 10,000+ acre ranch in Southern Utah. Leaving that life behind when his father's ranch was seized during the depression, he attended the University of Utah where he met his beautiful future bride; "it was pretty much love at first site" and they were married a year later. Life then led them to Reno where Kelly worked his primary career in gaming, working the floors as a dealer, pit boss, and gaming manager during the heyday years with Harold Smith, Bill "Pappy" Smith and Jessie Beck. He ended his gaming career after helping design the casino and working as gaming manager at the Reno MGM. Being a man of many interests and abilities, over the course of his life he also owned his own business, was active in the Elks Club, was an avid golfer, an accomplished handy man, and could cut a pretty mean rug. He excelled in all that he did in his life in spite of a disability that would have limited other men. He was an exceptional man, an exceptional husband, and an exceptional father. He will be sorely missed. "We will keep loving you." He will be interred during a private family service in Verdi. Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Sparks Funeral Home, Sparks, Nevada.
