Dall Larsen Black Lt. Col., US Army-Ret., 82, of Murray, Utah, passed away in St. George, Utah on Thursday, July 8, 2004. Born May 6, 1922 in Blanding, Utah to Lydia Ellen (Nellie) Porter Black and Morley Larsen Black. Married Anna Joy Larsen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 13, 1946. Dall served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Guadalcanal and the Philippines. Post-war Army service included assignments in Austria, Korea, France, Seattle and Ft. Leavenworth. Instructed three years of ROTC at John Carroll University in Cleveland. Final assignment was at Ft. Douglas in Salt Lake City as Chief Logistics Officer S-4,retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1964. After Spent 18 years at Salt Lake Community College (U.T.C.) teaching English and technical writing, and serving as athletic director. Received a bachelor's degree from BYU and a master's degree from USU. Life-long member of the LDS church and served as LDS District Servicemen's President in France, in the Branch Presidency in Kansas and Ohio, and in the Murray 9th Ward Bishopric. Dall and Joy served a full-time LDS mission in Anchorage, Alaska. Loved to write, and wrote four books. Survived by his wife, Joy of Murray, Utah; daughter, Gail Palmer of Taylorsville, Utah; daughter, Marsha (Les) Thatcher of Beavercreek, Oregon; son, David (Lynn) Black of Peoria Heights, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Ralene Black Metcalf; brother, Guss; and half-sisters, Darlene Billings and Rachel Black. Preceded in death by his son, Gary Larsen Black. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune from 7/11/2004 - 7/12/2004.
