Charles Edward "Charlie" Bobo


January 26, 1937 - August 26, 2014
Charles Edward "Charlie" Bobo, 77, of Houston went to be with the Lord on 26 August 2014. Charlie was born on 26 January 1937 in the Heights, and was the third child from the marriage of Jefferson Davis Bobo, Sr. and Esther Selma Schmidt Johnson. Both of his parents predeceased him, as well as his first wife of six years Alice Bobo; also a half-brother Franklin Andrew Jackson Bobo, a half-brother J. W. Bobo, a half-sister Dell Bush, and a half-sister Maxine Compton. He is survived by his dear wife of 35 years Katherine Bobo, his son and protégé Bobby Bobo, with wife Angie, and grandchildren Amanda, Shelly, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Tyler his daughter Kristen with granddaughter Meryl Clark, and daughter Amy Morton with husband John and grandson Aiden; also survived by brothers Jeff Jr, Thomas and John , sister Leanna Parker, a half-sister Viola Rask, and many other cherished relatives and friends.

Charlie attended Burbank Elementary and Junior High Schools, and Jeff Davis Senior High. He was baptized onto God's Kingdom of grace at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Heights and was in the first confirmation class at the newly formed St Luke's Lutheran in 1951. He served in the United States Air Force in Oklahoma and Alaska, which made him love Texas even more.

Charlie was somewhat of a legend in the traffic signal and control industry. He started repairing radar machines for Kar Trol Signal Electric in 1957 and advanced to street lighting, traffic signals and street intersection programming. He worked for various companies in Indiana, Florida, and throughout Texas. He concluded his long career with State Wide Electric of Houston - a company he helped form, manage and develop into a highly productive and competitive firm. Many workers in the industry worked under and were trained by Charlie Bobo. Charlie was a master bidder for projects for his company; it has been said on numerous occasions that he didn't leave much on the table. In his early years, Charlie loved to hunt deer, but later turned to gardening and antiques to fill his time. Charlie will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a date and time to be announced in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway,Houston, Texas 77024. The Reverend John W. Cain of Gethsemane Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Houston National Cemetery. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.
