Margaret Jane Harper was most likely born in Moon Township, Allegheny Co., PA, as that is where the family was living when the 1850 Census was taken, when she was 3 years old. She was living with her parents, Robert and Mary (Gleasen/Gleasson) Harper at the time.

The family moved to Ohio sometime between 1853 and 1857, and she lived the remainder of her life in Ohio. Her mother died in 1861, having had 7 living children, of which Margaret Jane was the 3rd. Robert subsequently married Marinda Byron and they had 8 children.

Sometime prior to 1870, Margaret married John Wade White and they were living in Jackson, Jackson Co., OH. She had had two children, Mary, 2, and Annie, 1, both born in OH, as were all of their subsequent siblings. In 1880, three more children had been added to the family, Carrie A, Herbert E, and Presley. Another child, Lola was born by 1900. Margaret's occupation was keeping house.

By 1910, Margaret was 64. Three children were still living at home, Alice C (nee Carrie Alice), Laura A and Herbert E. William died in 1914. In the 1920 Census, Margaret was living with her daughter Allie (Carrie Alice). Neither woman had an occupation; we are presuming Allie was caring for her 77 year old mother. The 1920 Census was taken in January 1920 and Carrie died in March. In the 1930 Census, daughter Laura, a professional hospital nurse, was living with, and presumably caring for, her mother, who was 84.

Margaret Jane White, born 12 Feb 1846 (cf. 15 Feb 1846 in a family history), died in Jackson, Jackson Co., OH, on May 8 1938 at the age of 92. Her parents were listed as Robert Harper and Mary Gleasson.

AGED RESIDENT BURIED TODAY
Mrs. J. W. White Dies
At Age of 92, Sunday

Funeral services were held for one of Jackson's oldest and most widely respected residents today . . . Mrs. Margaret White, widow of late John W. White.
She died Sunday morning at 4:30 o'clock at her home on Columbia street following an illness of complications lasting more than six weeks.
Born near Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Harper, she came to this county with her parents at the age of seven years, and remained here the rest of her life. Educated in the local schools, she was married to John W. White, who operated a grocery on Broadway for many years prior to his death in 1914.
Mrs. White was a member of the Presbyterian church, the only active charter member of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary society prior to her death, and was a charter member of the McGuffey Society.
She became the mother of seven children, four of whom are still living. One child died in infancy. The others who preceded her in death were Miss Alice White and Mrs. Mollie McKee, wife of the Rev. William S. McKee.
Those remaining are Miss Laura White, at home in Jackson; Mrs. Fred Nelson, of Jamestown, Ohio; Herbert E. White, of Youngstown; and Pressley White, of Marietta.
She also leaves two half-sisters, Miss Emma Harper of Columbus; Mrs. Robert Cremeens, of Jackson route 3; and one half brother, Marion Harper, of South Charleston.
The services were held at two o'clock Tuesday at the home with the Rev. S. Whilding officiating and burial followed in Fairmount cemetery under the direction of John Thomas
