Services were Monday for Randall "Chic" Canup, a teacher and coach at schools in Rockwall, Forney, McKinney, Princeton and Henderson County. Mr. Canup died Friday at Columbia Medical Center in McKinney after suffering a heart attack. He was 69. After a 31-year career in education, Mr. Canup retired in 1989 from Rockwall High School, where he taught distribution and marketing, said his wife, Jaunell Canup. He also served as an assistant football coach at Forney High School in the early 1960s and was the head football coach at Princeton High School in the late 1960s, where his coaching career ended, Ms. Canup said. "He was through coaching, but he never quit being a supporter of athletics," his wife said. Mr. Canup worked the ticket gates and parking lots during sporting events after he stopped coaching, she said. "He did anything to be near the athletic field and the kids," Ms. Canup said. His career began in the Henderson County town of Eustace, where he taught high school and coached basketball, Ms. Canup said. He also taught math and driver's education at McKinney High School for seven years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronald Mark Canup of Temple; a daughter, Marsha Canup of of McKinney; two sisters, Charlene Shaw of Leesburg, Texas, and Wanda Peoples of Buffalo, Texas; and two grandchildren.
