Florence was married to Charles Stephen Higgins on

Dec. 18, 1888 at Dundalk, Ontario. Elias Grey of Dundalk, Ontario and Mary McLean were the witnesses. Charles was a saddler at Dundalk,Ontario.


A much respected and highly esteemed former lady resident of Rosetown passed away on Thursday, Februry 25th at the home of her son Robt. Higgins in Toronto, at the age of 75 years, 4 months, in the person of Mrs. Florence Nightingale Higgins, following an attack of influenza.


Mrs. Higgins was born in Melancthon Township, Grey County, near Dundalk, Ontario. On Dec. 18th, 1888, she was married to Charles S. Higgins at Shelburne, Ont. where they lived for one year and then moved to Dundalk, Ont. in 1889, and came west to Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan in 1910, coming to the Rosetown district on April 4th, 1915 to farm near Fortune. They resided there for 6 years after which they came to Rosetown to reside and had lived here until the death of her husband in April, 1941. She then went east to Toronto to reside with her son Robert.


The deceased was of a very bright and sunny disposition and was appreciated by all who knew her. She was very devoted to her family, her home and her church.


She is survived by four sons, Robert, with the C.A.S.F, Toronto: Charles Wilfred, C.N.R. Commissioner of Publications, Montreal; Elias Oscar, C.P.R. agent at Belle Plain, Sask. and G.T.Higgins, Rosetown, and 8 grandchildren.


A service was held at the Trull Funeral Home in Toronto on the evening of February 26th, prior to shipping the remains to Rosetown.


Funeral services were held here on Tuesday, March 2nd, in the Rosetown Anglican Church, with the Rev. G.W. Rhodes officiating. It was well attended and the floral tributes were beautiful. The hymns sung were " Abide With Me" and " Safe in the Arms of Jesus." The service in the church concluded with singing of the Nune Dimittia.


The pallbearers were N.B. Douglas, John Coulter, Chas. Chambers, W.F. Aitcheson, A. Aitcheson and Jas. Burt.


Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. E.O.Higgins, Belle Plain, Sask.: Mr. and Mrs. G.T. Higgins and son Keith of Saskatoon: Miss Edna Higgins, Glenside, Sask., and Miss Lorna Higgins, Saskatoon.

There is no grave stone. Florence and Charles are buried in the same plot as their son Edward.
