George Samuel Weeks son of George H. Weeks and Ruth Maharg Weeks was born near Bunker Hill, Kansas, February 2, 1912. He departed this life April 8, 1980 at the St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas at the age of 68 years, two months and six days.
He grew up on the farm of his parents in the Shannon Community. He attended the Shannon Grade School and three years of high school at Friends academy at Haviland, Kansas. His senior year he attended Bunker Hill High School. As a child he was a member of the Shannon Friends Church.
On August 3, 1936 he was united in marriage to Viola Luerman. To this union was born four sons: George Henry, Dean, Terry and Loren. They made their home in the Beaver community until moving to the Cawker City community in 1942 at which time he transferred his church membership to Glen Elder Friends Church. He has served on various committees of the church and Sunday school and at the time of his death was a member of the Steward Committee in the church. His life was his work, family and church. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother Vern.
Surviving are his wife Viola, of the home; four sons George Henry and wife Doretta of Downs, Kansas, Dean and wife Mary Ann of Osborne, Kansas, Terry and his wife Nancee of Mulvane, Kansas; Loren and his wife Lois of Downs, Kansas, 16 grandchildren, ; three brothers, Marion and Leland of Hoisington, Kansas; and Glenn of Russell, Kansas; four sisters, Nina Christians, of Beaver, Mary Figgins of Traverse City, Michigan, Jennie Harzman of Downs, Kansas; and Iva May Whiteman of Atlanta, Kansas and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 11 at the Glen Elder Friends Church, the reverends Ken Roe and Roscoe Mendenhall officiating. Mrs Opel Boehner, organist accompanied Harry Harrison, soloist. Casket bearers were Don Harzman, Gene Bitter, Melvin Meier, Ray Ruby, Orval Weeks and Lyle Whiteman. Interment was in the Cross Plains Cemetery at Susank, Kansas
