Bellefonte Republican June 6 1877 DeHaas in Curtin township May 2 1877 James DeHaas aged 30 years. He struggled with disease for several months, but during his protracted illness he was patient and hopeful. James DeHaas served his country faithfully for about ninteen months, passing unhurt through the greater part of the principle engagements of the rebellion. Soon after his return home, while riding one very dark night, a horse fell with him and rendered him crippled the remainder of his life and was probably the cause of his death. He was a sprightly, active young man before his misfortune, and leaves many warm friends to mourn his loss. May the angels have conveyed his spirit to that land where parting and sorrow shall be no more
