Daughter of Dave (son of William and Nancy Bridges Iske)and Lena Mary Shaw (dau. of William H. and Mary Elizabeth Crowder Shaw) Married James Harley McIlrath January 1, 1936. Children: Sharon, James II, Nancy, Marlene, Kathleen, and Stanley.
Obit:Geneive McIlrath, 90, of Grinnell, died Thursday, February 9th at St. Francis Manor. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 14 at the Grinnell Christian Church with Rev. John Epperson officiating. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Patrick Brown II, Jeff Larsen, Joel Larsen, J. Harley McIlrath III, Jeremy McIlrath, Justin McIlrath, James Williams II and John Williams. Honorary bearers are her granddaughters Michelle Brown Appel, Jennifer Williams Beck, Julie McIlrath Bennis, Jill Brown Krausman, Kimberly Kaisand Miller and Sara Larsen Roorda. Interment will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home beginning at 12 noon on Monday where the family will be present to greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Geneive McIlrath Memorial Fund to support Grinnell Regional Hospice and the Grinnell Christian Church. Geneive is survived by her children, Sharon (Ron) Johnston of Grinnell, James (Patricia) McIlrath II of Grinnell, Nancy (James) Williams of Grinnell, Marlene (Dale) Larsen of Grinnell, Kathleen (Pat) Brown of Grundy Center, and Stanley (Pam) McIlrath of Grinnell; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; her sister Theodora Shaver of Newton, Iowa; her sisters-in-law Maxine Iske of Grinnell and Jeannette Iske of West Liberty, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Geneive was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harley on May 8, 1999; her brothers, Charles, Theodore, Francis, Carroll, Harold, Kenneth and Jack Iske; her sisters, Irene Wisgerhof and Edna Williams.
