Nancy Elizabeth MIDDLETON Brashear(s) was born the daughter of Benjamin 'Benoni' Middleton, Sr. and Isabella PATTON Middleton. She is named for her mother's sister Nancy PATTON Stockton, and her grandmother, Nancy MORGAN Patton.

Her family moved from KY to IN where her father is a veteran of the War of 1812, and afterwards the Middleton family settled in Crawford Co, IL where she met and married Basil Brashear on 16 Oct 1826.
