She was retired having worked at the Gerwin Shoe Factory in Freetown, the Excello Shirt Factory in Seymour and then at the Jackson County Treasurers Office. Alva attended the Valley Home Old Regular Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by her family.
Survivors include a son, Tom (Rita) Frazier of Dexter, MO; five daughters, Phyllis Loper of Freetown, Janet (Russ) Sutton of Seymour, Patsy (Monty) Lacy of Plano, TX, Diana (Sam) Spray of Medora, and Mary Mackey of St. Petersburg, FL. Also surviving is a brother, Glennon (Thelma) Ison; 3 sisters, Gracie (Pat) Boggs, Eula (Silas) Gilliam and Doris (Doug) Day; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Alva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and 5 brothers.
Visitation will be held at the Freetown Funeral Chapel on Thursday, April 10th from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. Pastor David Ison will officiate Alva's Celebration of Life at the funeral home at 10:00am Friday with burial to follow at Valley Home Old Regular Baptist Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Valley Home Old Regular Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
