Peter Carnes and Elizabeth
Collum has been somewhat of a mystery man to us, at least as to where he
died and was buried. He was estimated to have been born in c1795 but his
tombstone says 180? (this part flaked off). Last week I located his grave in
the old Van Wert Cemetery in Rockmart, Polk, GA. Elizabeth lies next to him.
Peter was born 180?, NC and Elizabeth was born 1808, maybe in Holland. They
were married 11/13/1817 in Franklin County, GA. Potential children are
Junnie b 1820 (yes, I know a 12 or 13 year old mother is unusual ... perhaps
an earlier marriage by Peter),
James Madison b 2/28/1826,
Greene Berry (my
line) b 7/31/1827,
Margaret b 1832,
Joseph Patrick (could this be Joseph or Joseph
P. ?) b 1834, Mary b 1835, Sarah b 1839,
Martha A. b 1841,
Bud b 1842,
Luginy, b 1849.
