New Paltz, Dec. 10 - Jacob Clearwater, 75, died at his home Thursday morning, December 8, after being ill since Sunday.
Mr. Clearwater was the son of the late Thomas Clearwater and Amanda Silkworth Clearwater and was born in High Falls, February 27, 1863.
In his young manhood, he worked on the farms of the late Isaac Hasbrouck in High Falls, for the late Reuben Bener in Springtown, then for the Railroad Company along the Wallkill Valley tracks. He then spent a little over nine years in Wallkill on the farm of the late John Terwilliger. While there he married Edith Carney, of High Falls, who died two years ago. He then came to New Paltz, where he has had employment on several farms till a short time ago. When health failed, he then did odd jobs.
Mr. Clearwater is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Place, of Poughkeepsie and Mrs. Irving Avery of Newburgh. Three sons, Eltinge, Frank and John Clearwater, all of New Paltz, two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Kniffen, of New Paltz and Mrs. Clementine Stokes, of High Falls, two brothers, Robert Clearwater, of Poughkeepsie and Asa Clearwater of High Falls and seven grandchildren, Harvey and Ralph Clearwater, of New Paltz, John Allen and Earl Clarence Place, of Poughkeepsie and Florence Edith Avery, of Newburgh, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at his late home Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Lloyd cemetery.
