CHANUTE TIMES, FEBRUARY 16, 1906

Mrs. J. M. McKinney of north Malcolm street died at her home Wednesday morning. She was 72 years old. She and her husband moved to Chanute several years ago where Mr. McKinney died some time back. Last fall Mrs. McKinney got seriously burned while burning some trash in the yard and never recovered from the effects.

CHANUTE TIMES OBITUARY--Mrs. Jane M. McKinney, one of the old residents of Neosho County, was called home on February 14th. Mrs. McKinney and her husband, Aaron McKinney, came to the farm north of Chanute in 1879 and were identified with Chanute and vicinity ever since. Aaron and Jane McKinney had no enemies and were loved by all that knew them. Until the death of her husband, they were the happiest couple imaginable. After his decease, she seemed to have no other thought but to join him on the other shore. About 3 months ago, as was chronicled in these columns she was very severely burned by raking and burning leaves in her yard. The effect of this caused internal trouble that cost her her life. She was 72 years, 5 months of age and leaves her twin sister, Mrs. Nettie Reed, of Chanute and her only son, H. C. McKinney, of Kansas City to mourn her death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mathis of the Presbyterian church. Six ladies, her neighbors, acted as pall bearers, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Henry Bertram, Mrs. Herman Bertram, Mrs. Byers, Mrs. McKinzle, and Mrs. Hammond.
All her neighbors and friends showed the greatest kindness and attention during her last illness and they have the sincerest thanks of her son and sister. Her last realizations of her life were visions of her departed husband. Her life passed away in peace and painless. Just one year ago an older sister died who lived in Michigan.
Surely the grim reaper is reaping fast in this family.
