Thief River Falls - Hilma Horien, 90, died Monday, August 20, 2001 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 24, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt with Rev. Eugene Floistad officiating. Yvonne Larson was the organist, and the soloist was Teri Wells. Casketbearers were Ivan Johnson, Forrest Johnson, Richard Kjensrud, Orville Larson, Marlin Augustine and Walter Steinhauer. Honorary casketbearers were members of Naomi Circle. Interment was in Holt Cemetery in Holt. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Hilma A. Nohre was born on May 6, 1911 in Spring Grove in Houstan county, the daughter of Svert and Signe (Berkvam) Nohre. When Hilma was an infant, she moved with her family to Holt. She was baptized at Nazareth Lutheran Church and in 1926, was confirmed there. She grew up and attended school in Holt.

On August 5, 1931, Hilma was united in marriage to Edgar J. Horien at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt. The couple farmed near Holt until 1980 when they moved into Holt. Edgar died on January 29, 1986, and in the fall of 1997, Hilma moved to Valley Home in Thief River Falls. On March 11, 1999, she moved to Oakland Park Nursing Home where she had since resided.

In 1982, Hilma and Edgar were named Outstanding Senior Citizens. Hilma was a member of Holt Keenagers and Nazareth Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of Naomi Circle.

She enjoyed visiting, spending time with her grandchildren and playing cards.

Hilma is survived by her two daughters, Arlene (Bob) Skoglund of Holt and Darlene Hallstrom of Moorhead; two sons, Emery (Millie) Horien and Marc Horien, both of Thief River Falls; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Oscar Nohre of Grants Pass, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Henry and Elmer; and one sister, Agnes Seaberg.
