She was a retired East Baton Rouge Parish schoolteacher. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home, 3 to 8 p.m. Friday. Religious services at First United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Chris Andrews and Dr. Roger Sullivan. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by husband, Dr. James A. Avant Jr.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ledaire and William Hickey, Baton Rouge, Ruth and Joe Roos, Dell City, Texas, Frances and Manfred Hansen, Caracas, Venezuela; a sister, Edith Sisson, Natchitoches; four grandchildren, Susan H. Smith, Michael Hickey, Eric and Earl Roos; and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Eddie L. and Eva Hinton Robinson. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for 50 years and attended Bluff Creek Baptist Church. She was a member of New Era Poetry Club and Epochal Study Club.
