Lester Harlan Blessum was born October 27, 1912 on a farm North of Rugby in Torgerson Township. A son of Obert & Selma (Jermeland) Blessum, he was reared on the farm and attended school in Torgerson Township and Rugby. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1931. He studied one year at the North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU). He married Barbara Millr June 26, 1938 at Rugby. They lived in Rugby a year while Lester Operated a gas station. He then bought a farm in Torgerson Township and they began farming. They moved back into town in 1949 & continued farming until retiring in 1977. During the winter months, he had worked at the Farmers Union Elevator and at The Tribune and for a short time he was manager at the Haaland Home. He was active in a "Singing Farmes" group.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, Rugby, sons Harlan (Lanny) Blessum, Poynette, Wisconsin and Jerome (Jerry) Blessum, Rugby: a daughter, Joan Orvik, Bismarck, ten grandchildren: seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Edna Mae Austin, Grants Pass, Oregon.
Rev Aanen Gjovik officiated at the service held a the Bethany Lutheran Church Rugby.
Lester Harlan Blessum, 82, rugby died Wednesday, October 4, 1995 at the Heart of America Medical Center.
Burial follwed in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby ND
