Lillian Byrum Askew, 78, wife of Benjamin F. Askew Sr. and a resident of Onancock, passed away at Shore LifeCare in Parksley on Friday, Jan. 13, 2006. Born on Dec. 24, 1927 in Edenton, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian Forehand Byrum. Mrs. Askew was a homemaker and a lifelong Baptist, having dedicated many hours of service to her Lord. She was a graduate of St. Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. Other than her husband of 58 years, Mrs. Askew is survived by her two sons, Benjamin F. Askew Jr. and his wife Barbara, and Shelton Askew and his wife Sharon, all of Onancock; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Byrum Truslow; a brother, George Alma Byrum; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Martin Cecil Askew; and a brother, Thomas Campbell Byrum Jr. Funeral services were conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Onancock on Monday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Shumate officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Eastern Shore, P.O. Box 316, Parksley, VA 23421. Arrangements by the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home.
