Calvin graduated from Clarks High School in 1943 and enlisted in the US Navy, serving 22 years. Calvin married Doris Kumberger on August 29, 1952, in Palisades Park, New Jersey. After retiring from the Navy, he became a tool and gauge repairman at AT&T in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he retired after 22 years.
Calvin was preceded in death by both of his parents; brothers, James and Robert; and a sister, Anne Smithey.
