A Pastor Resigns
Rev. Merrill Hitchcock of the Methodist Church has resigned his pastorate at White Creek, owing to ill health. John Bradish of Shaftsbury, Vt., preached at the White Creek Church, Sunday. The first charge of Mr. Hitchcock in the Troy Conference was at Wells, Vt., where he was located in 1883. He has also had charge of churches at Tinmouth, Middletown, South Shaftsbury and North Bennington and Willistown, Vt. and Racerville.

Died Thursday Morning at His Home in South Shaftsbury
Rev. Merrill Hitchcock, aged 52 years, died Thursday morning, March 7, at his home in South Shaftsbury.
Mr. Hitchcock was born in Pittsford, Vt., Nov. 20, 1854. He was a graduate of Montpelier seminary in 1875 and from Wesleyan university in 1881. He joined the conference two years later in 1883 and it has often been said that he was one of the best educated men in the conference. He was in the active ministry for 19 years. He was a faithful worker and the pastor in South Shaftsbury for five years.
His health failing in 1901 while pastor of the Methodist church at North Bennington and White Creek, he went to South Shaftsbury to reside on a farm where he died.
He was married in 1889 to Miss Ida M. Sharpe of Bennington. Of this union there were five children, Irene, Guy, Charles, Nelson and Mary, who are all living at home.
The funeral will be held from the Methodist church in South Shaftsbury Saturday, March 9, at 1 o'clock. Owing to the serious illness of the oldest daughter, Irene, friends are requested not to call at the house. The remains will be taken to Pittsford for burial.
Mr. Hitchcock's first charge after joining the Troy Conference was in Wells and Middletown jointly. From 1885 to 1890 he was stationed at North Bennington. In 1902 on account of his health he was placed on the supernumerary list, at conference session last year he was placed on the superannuated list, and had done but little since.
For a year or more he was town clerk of Shaftsbury and was succeeded by his wife. He was a man generally esteemed by all who were brought in contact with him and especially beloved by his parishoners.
