Jack was born in Ochlocknee, Ga. He was the only child of Precilla Ricks Massey Dixon and Joseph Iowa (Jody) Dixon. He had ten half siblings. His father had five children from previous marriage to Ethel Eliza Carter, memorial #25961412 (died 1927) and his mother had five children from her previous marriage to Abel C. Massey (memorial number 79287881 ). Jack served in the US Army and worked at the Bank of Thomas County in Thomasville, Ga before moving to Murphy, NC, after falling in love with the area while on a camping trip. He owned and operated the Firefox Restaurant on highway 64 in Murphy. It was at the Firefox restaurant that he met his wife, Rena Sue Golden. Jack had a strong love of the blue ridge mountain country and knew the area's history better than most native born citizens of the area. He had a gentle voice and made friends easily with everyone that he met, Jack was childless but was blessed with stepchildren and step grandchildren who loved him as if he were their natural father and grandfather. He fought a seven year battle with bone cancer before finally succumbing in 2011.
