Family history says that the two sons were born in Delaware and that is confirmed by census and other records; John M. 1848-1937 and Daniel 1849-1876. It was previously thought that the boys were the oldest, but new information shows that their half-sister, Annie, was the oldest, born to John and Mary Kelley in 1847.
The family moved to Wisconsin between 1849 and 1852 and three daughters were born there; Sarah Engle 1852-1915?, Mary Helen Lake 1854-1947, Catherine "Kate" Sullivan 1856-1935.
After Annie married Dennis J. Buckley about 1870 and Kate married John Sullivan about 1871, the remaining family moved again, this time to Hardin county, Iowa. Family history says that Sarah died the next year after arriving there. This burial record confirms that story.
This was a very mobile family. Annie went to Chicago with her first husband, had two sons, then her husband died and her second marriage was to a Borden millionaire with numerous residences coast to coast. John and his two sons went to Illinois for a time and then to Minnesota. Daughter, Sarah Engle is probably found in Colorado records. Mary Lake ended up in Thayer county, Nebraska. Kate was married in Wisconsin before her parents moved to Iowa.
After Sarah was laid to rest here in Iowa Falls, her husband, John, was also buried here, along with her two sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandsons. It will be a glorious reunion when they rise together to meet their Savior in the clouds some day.
