Until four months ago Mr. Abend had been president and general manager of the Belleville Brick Company. Then the brick plants of the city were merged, and Mr. Abend left the brick business to take charge of several coal mines operated by the Abend Coal Company, of which he was the president.
Ernest Abend was a son of the late Edward Abend, president of the Belleville Savings Bank.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Clarise L. Abend; his mother; the brother Edward and two sisters; Mrs. Lena A. Day and Mrs. Helen Rumbold, wife of Adjt. General Frank M. Rumbold, both of St. Louis.
He was a Mason, Elk and member of the Liederkranz Society.
Mr. Abend, who was known by the nick-name of "Curly," was born in Belleville March 1, 1869. He was married to Miss Clarise L. Shaw in Chicago December 24, 1902.
The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the home, 17 North Pennsylvania avenue to Walnut Hill Cemtery.
