Glen Anderson was born Jan.
3, 1927, on a farm near in Alta to
Gustav Hjalmar and Anna
Justina Anderson.
Glen was baptized and confirmed
into Trinity Church in
Alta. He attended and graduated
from the Alta consolidated
schools in 1944. He was active
in many activities. Glen served
as a class officer every year and
as a senior served as class president.
He played football and
participated in track and was
named to all-conference first
team in football.
After graduation, Glen
joined the Navy and served in
the Pacific theatre aboard the
APA Randall. Received an honorable
discharge in 1946 and
farmed with his father while attending
classes at Buena Vista
College. On Dec. 20, 1948 he
was married to Carma D. Yaw, at
the Old Trinity church, in Alta.
In June 1948 they moved Pammel
Court, veterans housing in
Ames, to attend Iowa State College
where he graduated in June
1950. After Glen's graduation, he
joined Iowa State Extension
Service. They moved to Pocahontas
where he was 4-H and
youth assistant First son Steve
was bom there in 1951. In 1952
Glen was named Extension Director
in Humboldt County.
A second son, Tom, was bom
in 1954. Glen accepted the position
of Extension Director for
Clay County and they moved to
Spencer in June 1954. Glen later
joined WR Grace and was in
charge of distribution of Grace
products in the north half of Illinois.
The family moved to
Galesburg, Ill., and later to Iowa
City.
Glen reentered the ISU Extension
program in 1970, and
they moved to Boone. Carma
worked in the K-6 school system.
Both retired in 1989.
Glen received the National
Distinguished Service award at
the national convention of
county agents in 1986. He was
inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall
of Fame in 2005 for outstanding
service and dedication to 4-H.
He was also the recipient of the
outstanding service award from
the Cattlemen's Assn. and the
Boone Chamber Of Commerce
Award for Community Leadership.
Upon retirement, Carma and
Glen spent their summers at
Okoboji, and winters in Mesa,
Ariz. They both enjoyed golf and
fishing and participated in
community volunteer projects.
Glen was a member of Lions in
Boone and Golden Kiwanis in
Spencer.
Travels included cruises,
guided bus tours, and a trip to
Sweden, and much time was
spent enjoying family.
