Charles H. Fiegenbaum, 84, of 623 N. Kansas St., longtime member of the Edwardsville Fire Department and fire chief from 1913 to 1917, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Alton Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient there two days.
Born Sept. 4, 1886, in Pin Oak Township, he had lived in Edwardsville all his life. He was a son of Fred and Amelia Kriege Fiegenbaum of Edwardsville, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A son, Edward W. Fiegenbaum, died March 5, 1966.
He was a member of the Edwardsville Fire Department and Volunteer Fire Department for 57 years, was a former alderman in Ward 4 and also served as an assistant supervisor of Edwardsville Township.
After retiring as agent and bulk distributor for Standard Oil Co. here, he had worked as a custodian at both Columbus School and the high school.
He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of the church.
Besides his parents, wife and son, four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Weber Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Thursday until the hour of service.
The Rev. Philip Gardner, pastor of Immanuel Church, will officiate at last rites at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Edwardsville firemen will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Ed Sooy, Arthur Fiegenbaum, Elmer Fiegenbaum, Bruce Fiegenbaum, Eugene Fiegenbaum, Elmer May and Paul Fiegenbaum.
