Elisabeth was born at #15 Eidinghausen, Prussia (now Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany) to Ernst Heinrich Kölling and Anne Elizabeth Margarethe Hanna Wallger. Elisabeth and her parents, along with four other children, came to the United States in 1834, settling first in Ohio. In 1846 they moved to Iowa where her parents bought a farm. In the U.S. the family name was changed from Kölling to Collins.
On 17 Aug 1849 Elisabeth married John Silas Bond in Henry Co, Iowa. The marriage was performed by Justice of the Peace William Patten. From this union, seven children were born, all in Iowa: Sabina Ann (1851-1917), Mary Jane (1852-1868), Anna Betsey (1855-1940), Hannah Mariah (1856-1935), Amanda Martha (b. 1858), Emma (b. 1859), and Eunice (b. 1865).
Elisabeth died in Hardin County, Iowa on Mar 20 or 21, 1868. Her husband John married Mary Jane Mills Hammer in Hardin Co, Iowa on 27 Nov 1869 and they had three children plus the seven from his first marriage and five from Mary Jane's first marriage. John and Mary Jane then moved to Whittier, California and remained there until their deaths.
