Per his death certificate found on Ancestry.com: he was a son of George E. Mayers, born in Marion Co., S. C., and Caroline Hughes, born in S. C., and the husband of Ella N. Mayers. He was a carpenter. He resided and died at 431 Hampton St. of coronary thrombosis due to congestive heart failure. The informant was (hard to read first initial) Smith of 1113 Hamilton St., Roanoke Rapids, N. C. Note: his DOD is given as above in conflict with his grave marker.
