Dorothy was born June 20, 1916 in Fairmont, Nebraska, the only child of Donald Bruce and Ella M. (Wohlers) Hearn.
Dorothy grew up in Missouri Valley and graduated from the Missouri Valley High School in 1934. She was married to Lyle Roberts on August 29, 1935. They lived most of their married life on the Robert's family farm near Loveland, Iowa. While a girl, Dorothy performed many times at the amateur shows in the Rialto Theater where she did acrobatics and sang. As a young woman she was a Campfire leader and then a 4H leader in Pottawattamie County. Later she earned a pin for over two hundred hours of service in the hospital gift shop in Missouri Valley. She was editor of the Town and Country monthly newsletter for a year. She taught Sunday school at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for several years. For twenty years, she clerked for her parents at Hearn's Grocery Store. Dorothy also played piano for ten years in her husband's band, The Vibratone Trio and Friend.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Don and Ella (Wohlers) Hearn, husband Lyle Roberts in 2002.
Survivors include her children: Lynn (Suzanne) Roberts of Phoenix, Arizona; Bruce (Shirley) Roberts of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Janet (Brian) Sandwich of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren; Julie May of Phoenix, Scott Roberts of St. Charles, Missouri, Angela Kozeal of Neola, Todd Roberts of Springfield, and Jessica Roe of Phoenix; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; cousins.
