Elijah Clayton was the son of John Clayton b. 1734 in Greenville Dist., SC, and Hannah Kyle b. abt 1769 in Greenvile Dist., SC.

He was a Baptist Minister for 50 yrs, ordained in 1837; moved in 1825 to Monroe Co., TN; Moved 1839 to Polk Co., TN; Early Settler at Greasy Creek, Polk Co., TN; Military: War of 1812; Rank PVT TN Militia; Land: 80 acres of bounty land from the State of TN in the Reliance Area of Polk Co.,; Burial: Greasy Creek Cem., Polk Co., TN.
