from a FAG member:
Frances Ellen Gale ("Ellen") was the daughter of Joseph Gale, an early governor of Oregon Territory, and his Nez Perce/Walla Walla native wife, Eliza (Bear Claws). Ellen and her younger brother Edward were born at Fort Hall, Oregon Territory, located in present day Idaho. She and her family moved several times due to the nature of her father's work. They lived in the Willamette Valley of Oregon and and twice in California before Ellen's marriage to Thomas Page on Jan 10/11, 1857 at Fort Tejon, Los Angeles, California. Mr. Page was a native of Ireland. The couple settled in Walla Walla, which was in Oregon Territory, in 1858. They raised 5 children: Sabina, Thomas D., Elizabeth, Sara, and Ellen. Ellen and her children were enrolled Walla Walla Indian tribal members at Umatilla, Oregon. She lived in the Walla Walla area for many years until she and her husband divorced in about 1889. She then moved to the Seattle area to live with her daughter Eleanor and family until her death.
