M. Violette Kautz of Culbertson died February 26, 1997 at her home south of Culbertson. She was 85.

She was born December 26, 1911 in Cornell community south of Trenton to Joseph Charley and Elizabeth Jane (Pierce) Cole. She grew up in the Cornell community where she received her schooling.

On October 25, 1935 she married Joe Kautz at Oberlin, Kansas. They spent their married lives farming south of Culbertson.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Culbertson, where she was church pianist for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and entertained at many functions with piano, organ, and accordion music.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one grandson, Danny Raulston; three brothers, G. Clarence Cole, Roy F. Cole, and John Garrett Cole; four sisters, Maggie T. (Grigg) Pine, Nellie M. Frakes, D. Lena Anderson, and Laura E. Pierce.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Kautz of Culbertson; one daughter, Joyce Raulston and husband, Lemoin of Simpsonville, South Carolina; four sons, Donald Joe Kautz of Littleton, Colorado; DeWayne Kautz and wife, Gloria; and Jerry Kautz and wife, Nancy, all of Culbertson; and Roger Kautz and wife, Devi of Boulder, Colorado; one brother, Jasper Cole of Trenton; two sisters, Josephine Cadle of Ctio, Michigan; and Mary Keller and husband, Carl of Trenton; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services were held March 1, 1997 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. George Kilmer officiating. Interment was in the Culbertson Cemetery.

Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of arrangements.
