Military marker on back of stone. His service was provided by an old friend of Herb's who knew both him and Bill DeWeese.
The flag is the flag presented to military at burial.
The flashlight was an old, I mean very old flash light that Herb carried for years and tried to get to work again but never did. Identified as a Coon light by his brother. It moved with him from IN to HI to CO and back to IN.
The green ammo box was one that Herb got years ago and in which his ashes along with some other personal items were placed.

The boots with hat is called "short timers" which was org. put out during the Vietnam War and sat unopened for 40 years plus. We opened it in memory of my Dad. The hat was his and he wore it often. The old ammo can is one he picked up while we lived in Colorado and we used it for years to hold nails. It's been empty for years and that is what we buried him in.

Herb and his "bird". HE was known to fly the bird when people took his photo. Just shy of 18, 1958.

Herb loved to fish, he had been doing so most of his life.
The fish are most likely catfish caught on the Tippecanoe River.

Carolyn Watkins DeLong with her children Karl and Lisa DeLong.

Later, he adopted Karl and Lisa as his own. And they were.
