Jane Johnson married Elias Lyman Briggs 8 June 1843, Territory of Iowa. By 1850, the couple lived in Union, Davis County, Iowa. From a review of Briggs' family census entries 1850 through 1870, Iowa counties of Davis, Jefferson, and Wapello, the couple's children were Abington H., Harriet J., Henry L., James A., and Clara M.
The Reverend Elias Lyman and Jane (Johnston) Briggs were parents of Harriet "Hattie" Jane (Briggs) Bousquet, one of the seven founders of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Mrs. Briggs' obituary is from the Oskaloosa Herald, June 28, 1878, and courtesy of Steve Lovell:

Died- at her home in Grinnell Iowa, June 20, 1878, Jane Jays. Briggs, wife of the Rev. E. L. Briggs of the Iowa conference, and at one time pastor of the First M.E. Church in the city. She was born in Clark County Illinois, October 2, 1825; was a devout Christian wife and mother, and for 27 years began tiring and cheerful companion of her devoted husband in his ministerial labors. For the last three or four years her spiritual life has been brightening and deepening. During her late sickness of about three months in duration, she suffered most immensely, but without murmuring. She told the writer at one time, that from the first attack she did not expect to recover, but felt that her work was finished, and in readiness she was awaiting the Master's summons.

About three weeks ago she received from our hand the elements of the Holy Communion for the last time, with apparent joy and thanksgiving.

A funeral sermon was preached at Grinnell, by Rev. T. E. Corkbel, on the 23rd, inst., at 10:30 a.m. and in the afternoon of the same day, accompanied by her family and friends, her remains were brought to this city where being joined by many other friends, in our lovely cemetery, with suitable service conducted by the pastors of the M.E. churches, she was peacefully laid to rest. May the God of whom this faithful woman served bring comfort to the heart of the husband sons and daughter who now so deeply mourn.
