Mr. John Bennett, 76, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Treva Bennett Allen in Linby. He had been ill for 17 years. Mr. Bennett was born September 6, 1861 in Banksville, Pennsylvania and came to Iowa in 1877 to farm near Packwood. He was married December 3, 1885 to Margaret E. Wolfe, who preceded him in death in 1930.

Mr. Bennett worked in the coal banks around Blue Point along with farming. His family lived on a farm 2 miles east of Linby with Mrs. Bennett's mother, Mrs. Jane E. Wolfe. After Mrs. Bennett's death in 1930, John B. moved with his daughter, Treva, to Linby.

Mr. Bennett was survived by five children: Mrs. Genevieve Bennett Clingman, Mrs. Treva Bennett Allen, Mr. Ray Bennett, Mrs. Ava Bennett Kent, and Mrs. Lela Bennett Black; a brother Homer Bennett; three sisters, Mrs. L.C. Ryman, Mrs. T.K. Bottorff, and Mrs. Charles Haddock; and nine grandchildren.
