Charles Everett Greenlee, 83, of Abilene,, passed away at his home on February 3, 2014. A service is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 6, 2014, at the Oldham Lane Church of Christ under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM in the Wayland Cemetery in Stephens County after the service. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:30 PM at the funeral home.


Charles Everett Greenlee was born on August 5, 1930 to Ray and Leona (Patterson) Greenlee on the Greenlee farm in Stephens County, Texas. He attended schools in the Wayland Community until the school closed. He then attended school in Breckenridge, Texas, graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1949. He married Dortha Faye McElroy in Breckenridge, Texas on December 10, 1949. At the time of their marriage he was employed by Saguard Drilling Company. Later he worked for R.E. Dye Machine and Supply Company. They left Breckenridge when he became employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, working first in Plainview and later in Snyder as an unlocated construction lineman. In 1952 he located permanently with Southwestern Bell in Abilene, beginning as a maintenance lineman. He concluded his career after 38 years as a communication technician in 1989. After retirement, he worked for Abilene ISD for five years as a bus driver.

Charles was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He served as a deacon at the Northside (Central) and Hillcrest Churches of Christ and as an elder at the North 5th and Grape St Church of Christ. At the time of his death he was a member of the Oldham Lane Church of Christ.

Surviving Charles are his children, Bob Greenlee and wife Cecilia, Deborah Dannheim and husband Wayne, Ed Greenlee and wife Evelyn, and John Greenlee and wife Maryann, ten grandchildren Sarah Harris and husband Brent, Lauren Morgan and husband Matthew, Zachary Greenlee and wife Molly, Andrea Cooper and husband Kendall, Kristen Greenlee, Kate Pamplin and husband Daniel, Amanda Greenlee, Jonathan Dannheim, Victoria (Torie) Greenlee and Rachel Greenlee, five great grandchildren, Hayden Harris, Addison Harris, Will Morgan, Reese Morgan and Harper Ray Greenlee. He is also survived by his brother, Darrell Greenlee and wife Faustina, sister, Joan Jones, brother James Greenlee and wife Sharon, brother, Robert Greenlee and sister Barbara McHargue and husband Chuck and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, in 2011, and by his parents.
