Leona was born in Cherokee, San Saba Co. Tex. where her grandmother Luticia Sallee's family also lived. After a few months or years her father Jack, and mother Jessie(Kate) took the family on a tour of north Texas and southern Oklahoma in a covered wagon. The ecomomic plan was to temporarily rent farm houses, and work farm crops in the local neighborhoods where some of their kinfolks lived. Jessie's brother William Tinney and family lived near Altus Ok. and her aunt Maggie Mayrhofen may have lived nearby, and later lived in the Chickasaw Nation in the southeast corner of Oklahoma. From about 1910 till 1913 the family live on the west edge of Warren, Ok. where Jack improved the property by digging a storm cellar. A twin baby Ewel died and was buried in the Warren Cemetary. Grandmother Lue Tinney was invited to come and help with the babies and she spent up to about 3 years with them. Duriing their stay in Oklahoma they visited eastern Oklahoma where the Charley Mayrhofen and Kate's sister Maggie lived. They probably also visited Kate's Cousin David Tinney.(David's son Cal Tinney went on to become a movie star, in "Missouri Traveler" with Lee Marvin)When Lue was in very poor health, the women and children caught the train from Altus, Ok to Rochelle Tx. via Ft. Worth. I believe Kate's sister Lizzie was with them also.
Within a few days after arriving in Rochelle, grandma Lue died and Lizzie married Charlie Berry. Moving back to Texas, the family lived a few months in Eolian, in Stephens Co. and then moved to the Duncan Place about 1/2 mile east of the Clarence Greenlee place in Wayland. There Leona met Ray Greenlee and they were married on July 19,1921. Their first child Darrell was born Jan. 19, 1925. The Ray Greenlee family live most of their married life on the Clarence Greenlee farm and purchased the home place when Clarence died. Leona felt the need to supplement the Farm and Ranch income, so she got a job driving the Harpersville route school bus for Breckeneridge ISD, and worked in the school cafeteria for 13 years. Then she retired and stayed home for about 7 years taking care of her granddaughter Jeanette Greenlee. She lost her abilities just before Ray died and spent 10 years living with her daughters Jo Jones and Barbara McHargue. Leona died in Houston at the age of 94 and is buried in the Wayland Cemetery. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Wayland and Breckenridge, and was a very faithful believer in the teachings of Christ. In her life she experienced riding a covered wagon drawn by mules to riding in a jet airliner from Los Angeles. She also had a son who worked in the Space program with the manned Moon landing, the Space Station and the Space Shuttle.
