James Arnold
James V. Arnold, 69, of Burlington, died at 10:27 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Oct. 2, 1931, in Raritan, Ill., he was the son of Maurice "Honk" and Alice Ruebush Arnold. On Oct. 2, 1954, he married Donna Faye Lepp in Dallas City, Ill.
Mr. Arnold was the head receiving clerk for J.I. Case Co. for 34 years. He retired in August 1990.
He was a Korean War Navy veteran, serving on the USS Toledo and USS Manchester. He served from 1949 to 1954.
He was a member of Sts. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 579, Knights of Columbus Council 568, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102 and UAW Local 807 Retirees. He liked to walk and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys fan.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; five daughters, Debra Helmick of Washington, Iowa, Christine Coleman of Gosport, Ind., Theresa Ford of Columbus, Ohio, Machelle Ripple of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Rita Herrig of Mason City; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maureen Stump of Bowen, Ill., and Shirley Ferrill of Dallas City; two brothers, Jerome Arnold of Fort Madison and Joseph Arnold of Dallas City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Friday at Hass Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends following a 6 p.m. Moose rites service until 8 p.m.
The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Arnold will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Burlington, with the Rev. Patrick J. Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery in Dallas City.
A memorial has been established.
