She was born on her parents' farm, Johan Ludwig (John Lewis) and Catherine (Seaser) Fehliman, near Evansport, Ohio. She married her husband, Silas on Christmas day 1878 and they lived on their farm for over 50 years. The farm was located four miles east of Bryan, Ohio. She never knew her bio-logical father, John, he was killed in the Civil War at the Battle of Missionary Ridge, Chattanooga, Tennessee on 25 November 1863.
