Francis James "Fritz" Powell, 90, of Newdale, died peacefully of natural causes Sunday, January 19, 2014 at The Homestead in Rexburg. Francis was born January 11, 1924 in Victor, Idaho to James Everett Powell and Susannah Frances Kearsley Powell. He moved to Salem, Idaho at the age of five and attended Sugar City and Rexburg schools.

He served in the United States Army in the Philippines during World War II and was always proud of his service.

He married Grace Ann Logoteta on August 8, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on March 20, 1959. She passed away June 11, 2010.

Fritz was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including scout master, bishop Stake Mission presidency, and temple ordinance worker. He served two missions for the church with is wife, Grace.

He married Faye Renee Clark Scott May 23, 2011.

Fritz was an accomplished horseman and trained horses. He won many trophies and ribbons for riding in parades.

Fritz worked for many years in sales and business management and received numerous achievement awards.

He is survived by his wife, Renee Powell of Rexburg; his children Jack (Sherrolin) Powell of Portland, Ore., Jami Townsend of Pflugerville, Texas, Lesli (Floyd) Simper of Newdale, Michael (Cindy) Powell of Newdale and Niki (Richard) Hawkes of Twin Falls, as well as 29 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, his wife, Grace, an infant son, Ronald Joseph, a grandson, Daniel, and a son-in-law, Darryl Townsend.

Funerals services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25 at the Newdale LDS Chapel with Bishop Jason Grover officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Idaho Veteran's Cemetery in Boise. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online a www.flammfh.com.
