The funeral for Catherine Streifel, 82, formerly of Minnewaukan, was held Fri. at 10:30 a.m. at the St. James Catholic Church in Minnewaukan. Interment was in the St. James Cemetery at Minnewaukan. She died April 12 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.
Fr. George Krile was celebrant. Special music was provided by Mrs. Kinley (Luana) Poulson & Mrs. Randy (Kathleen) Melaas. Grandsons acting as pallbearers were Jerry Bogan, Brian Halvorson, John Sogge, Randolph Sogge, Dennis Streifel and Steven Streifel. The Christian Mothers Confraternity acted as honorary pallbearers. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock was in charge of arrangements.
Catherine Grossman Streifel was born May 10, 1905 near Selz, the daughter of Peter & Helena Schultz Grossman. She was reared & educated near Harvey and married Nick Streifel Nov. 21, 1927 near Selz. They farmed in the Esmond & Harvey area until 1932 when they moved to Minnewaukan. They continued to farm near Minnewaukan & in 1941 they purchased their own farmstead southwest of Minnewaukan. In 1961 they began operation of Huebschwerlen's hardware store in Minnewaukan & changed the name of their business to Streifel's Farm Supply. They moved into Minnewaukan in 1963. They sold the hardware store to Harry & Loretta Pung in 1970. He died Nov. 19, 1973. For the past 2 years she had been a resident of the Maddock Memorial Home & more recently the Lake Region Lutheran Home in Devils Lake.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, its Altar Society & the Christian Mothers Confraternity.
Survivors include 3 sons, Harold of West Fargo, Paul of Minnewaukan and George of Oberon; 4 daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Leona) Sogge & Mrs. Dale (Mavis) Halvorson of Minnewaukan, Mrs. Loren (Helen) Bogan of Montevideo, Minn., Mrs. Byron (Carolyn) Butters of Minneapolis; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; & 2 brothers, August of Harvey and Anton of Detroit, Mich.
She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, John, Peter, Paul, Frank & William & 3 sisters, Helen, Emma & Mary.
