Dee Ellis Massey, son of Bland and Thelma Bennett Massey, was born May 16, 1934, near Competition, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, April 6, 2012, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, ten months, and twenty-one days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Arlene Massey; and a step-son, Johnny Fowler.
Dee is survived by four sons, James Massey, and his wife, Annetta, of Bernie, Missouri, Terry Massey, and his wife, Delores, of Scappoose, Oregon, Charles Massey, of Springfield, Missouri, and Jerry Don Massey, of Bernie, Missouri; three daughters, Sandy Barnes, and her husband, Carl, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Christine Marshall, & her husband, James, of Bernie, Missouri, and Deanna Bowers, of Portland, Oregon; a step-son, Larry Fitzgerald, of Dexter, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five brothers, Verlin Massey, and his wife, Lena, Vernon Massey, and his wife, Susie, all of Grovespring, Missouri, George Massey, and his wife, Marilyn, of Lebanon, Missouri, Junior Massey, and Judy, of Cedar Creek, Missouri, and David Massey, and Janice, of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister, Carolyn Beach, and her husband, Andy, of Ozark, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Doniphan, Missouri area, and then moved with his family to the Bernie, Missouri community. He continued to live in the Bernie area and operated a grocery store for several years. For the majority of his life he worked as a carpenter and made his home in various places including Oregon and Alaska. For the last ten years he had made his home in Lebanon, Missouri, and enjoyed his retirement.
Dee followed the Baptist faith throughout his life, and had established his own personal relationship with his Lord and Savior.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and panning for gold. He possessed an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Dee was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
