THELMA MAE MASSEY, daughter of Bud James Bennett and Annie Leora "Cricket" Emmerson Bennett, was born September 21, 1916, in Wright County, Missouri and departed this life September 28, 2009, in Ozark, Missouri, at the age of ninety-three years.

Early in life Thelma made a profession of faith in Christ and always followed the Free Will Baptist Faith. She treasured the fellowship with her Christian family and treasured each friendship.

On April 13, 1933, she was united in marriage with Rev. Bland Massey. To this union was born nine children. She was very supportive of her husband's ministry and devoted to living her life according to God's will. Bland preceded her in death on September 26, 1959.

Thelma defined "homemaker." She wanted her children to know they could always come home to a safe and welcoming environment. She taught them the importance of hard work and appreciation for life's simple pleasures.

Thelma enjoyed being outdoors, especially tending to her flower gardens. She also enjoyed quilting. Thelma was a caregiver by nature and also spent many afternoons and evenings caring for neighbors and friends that weren't feeling well.

Although Thelma had a variety of past times, nothing compared to the time spent and precious memories made with her loving family. She instilled in them the importance of a close family bond and treasured each moment.

She is survived by six sons, George and his wife Marilyn of Lebanon, MO, Dee of Eldridge, MO, Junior of Cedar Creek, MO, and his special friend, Judith Satterfield, of Lebanon and David Howard Massey and his special friend Janice White, also of Lebanon, Verlin and his wife Lena and Vernon and his wife Susie, all of Grovespring, MO; one daughter, Carolyn Beach and her husband Andy of Ozark, MO; one daughter-in-law, Marie Massey, of Grovespring, MO; two sisters, Ruby Bohannon and Lily Decker, both of Lebanon, MO; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Thelma was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Bob, Earl, Jake, Jeff, Calvin and Dallas, three sisters, Ida Lewis, Vandaly Williams and Moria Bennett, four children, Jimmy,

James, Virgie Marie and Dallas Massey, two step children, Leslie Massey and Vera Admire, and one granddaughter, Arlene Massey.

A doting mother, fun-loving grandmother, cherished sister, and treasured friend, with the ability to make everyone around her feel like part of her family, those who had the pleasure of knowing her will treasure each memory.

Thelma M. Massey, 93, of Ozark, formerly of Lebanon, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at Ozark Riverview Manor.

She was born Sept. 21, 1916, in Wright County, Mo. to Bud James Bennett and Annie Leora (Cricket) Emmerson Bennett.

On April 13, 1933, she married the Rev. Bland Massey, who preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Bob, Earl, Jake, Jeff, Calvin and Dallas; three sisters, Ida Lewis, Vandaly Williams and Moria Bennett; four children, Jimmy, James, Virgie Marie and Dallas Massey; two stepchildren, Leslie Massey and Vera Admire, also one granddaughter, Arlene Massey.

She was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist faith.

Survivors include eight sons, George and wife, Marilyn, of Lebanon; Dee, of Eldridge; Junior, of Cedarcreek; David Howard and his special friend, Janice White, of Lebanon; Verlin and his wife, Lena and Vernon and his wife, Susie, all of Grovespring; a daughter, Carolyn Beach and her husband, Andy, of Ozark; a daughter-in-law, Marie Massey, of Grovespring; two sisters, Ruby Bohannon and Lily Decker, both of Lebanon; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services for Thelma M. Massey were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at Shadel's Colonial Chapel with David Douglas and William Brinton officiating.

Burial was in McBride Cemetery, under the direction of Shadel's Colonial Chapel of Lebanon.

A memorial has been established to the Alzheimer's Association.
