Herald Coaster, August 28, 1973:

Funeral services for Bennie E. Gerken, 63, of Needville, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Garmany and Co. Funeral Home Chapel in Needville, with the Rev. William E. Scholze officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Gerken died early Monday morning in the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Houston. He was a native of Rosenberg and was a retired oilfield worker and veteran of World War II, a member of the Milton Brennner Post of VFW, and the Needville American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lottie Gerken of Needville; three sisters, Mrs. Hennie Miller and Mrs. Minnie Schulz, both of Needville, and Mrs. Elvena Lowe of Rosenberg; three brothers, Johnnie and Herbert Gerken Sr. of Fairchilds; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Needville Chapel of Garmany & Co. after 4 p.m. today.
