Brandon – Bertha R. "Bertie" Beck, 86, died Friday, December 13, 2013.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 17, George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon, SD, with interment at the Brandon Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 2:00 PM Monday, December 16 at the funeral chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Bertha Rose Herman, daughter of Vincent and Susan (Brungardt) Herman, was born June 1, 1927 at Great Bend, KS. At the age of 14 she moved with her family to Idaho Falls, ID and later to Twin Falls, ID.
Bertie was united in marriage with Dillman Beck on May 27, 1949 at Twin Falls. The couple lived at Salmon, ID and several other communities before moving to Sioux Falls, SD. They settled in Brandon, SD in 1961. Bertie worked for eight years at Chris' Country Grill on East 10th Street. Dillman preceded her in death on March 18, 1999.
Bertie was a member of Risen Savior Catholic Church in Brandon.
Grateful for having shared her life are five children, Bill Beck and his wife, Becky, Brandon, SD, Jim Beck and his wife, Sandy, Sioux Falls, SD, Jane Bader, Pipestone, MN, Betty Entenman and her husband, Lonnie, Brandon, SD, Shirley Jones and her husband, Ray, Sioux Falls, SD; eleven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Al Herman and his wife, Janet, Mary Silva, Beth Egbert and her husband, Don, Theresa Hogaboam and her husband, James, Serona Austin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Dillman, Bertie was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Frank Herman, Martin Herman, Matt Herman and Rose Deadmond.
