YORK - Harold S. Newcomer, 80, of York, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday at York
Hospital. He was the husband of Blodwyn (Lewis) Newcomer.
The service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion United Methodist Church, 1030
Carlisle Road, York. Burial will be in Manchester Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester.
Viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. The Diehl Funeral Home and
Cremation Center Inc., 87 S. Main St., Mount Wolf, is in charge of arrange
ments.
Mr. Newcomer was born Sept. 21, 1920, in North Codorus Township. He was the son
of the late Samuel and Katie (Spangler) Newcomer. He was the foster son of the
late Josiah and Daisy (Newcomer) Nace.
He worked for York International Corp. for 43 years, retiring in 1984; he was a
member of the company's 25-year club. He was a member of Zion United Methodist
Church, where he served on the Administrative and Trustee boards, he was chief
usher and a member of the Lightbearers Sunday school class; he was a member of
Dover American Association of Retired Persons; he was a volunteer for Meals on
Wheels and active in scouting; he was a 1940 graduate of William Penn Senior
High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serv ing in the China
Burma India Theater.
Mr. Newcomer also is survived by a daughter, Nancy Gwen Newcomer of York; a
brother, Jesse Newcomer of York; and a half sister, Catherine Alwine of Spring
Grove.
Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Bradley A. Brown of Zion
United Methodist Church, and his former pastor, the Rev. Paul E. Stambach.
