OBITUARY: Jesse P. Newcomer YORK Jesse P. Newcomer, 81, formerly of Mt. Wolf,
died at 8:40 a.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at Normandie Ridge. He was the
husband of Shirley M. Newcomer, whom he married 53 years ago on April 14, 1951.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Otterbein United
Methodist Church, Main at Center Street in Mt. Wolf. Viewings will be Friday
from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 87 South
Main St., Mt. Wolf and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Officiating at the service will be his
pastor, the Rev. Wayne F. Heberlig.
Mr. Newcomer was born April 18, 1923, in Codorus. He was the son of the late
Samuel and Kate (Spangler) Newcomer.
He worked for the Postal Service for 42 years before retiring in 1988. He
volunteered at Normandie Ridge and also sang with the Normandie Ridge Choirs. He
was formerly on the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Board of Otterbein
United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII . In addition to
his wife, Mr. Newcomer is survived by one son, Philip Newcomer of Manchester;
three daughters, Sue Hershey of Mt. Wolf, Ann Strickler and Jane Shade both of
York; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence
Newcomer, Jr. and Warren Newcomer both of Manheim, Lancaster County; and one
sister, Catherine Alwine of Spring Grove.
The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Otterbein
United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 386, Mt. Wolf, PA 17347.
