John H. Hoover, 82, died about 9 a.m. Thursday in his room at the Taft hotel. Dr. T. Frank Hersch, Linn county coroner, said death was caused by a stroke.
Born July 30, 1863, at Lisbon, he was a lifelong resident of Linn county and had lived in Cedar Rapids for 10 years. His wife, Mary Catherine, died in 1935.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James Thompson of Oak Park, Ill., and Mrs. David Savely, Houston, Texas; two brothers, William of Mt. Vernon and Estel, Lisbon; two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Runkle of Davenport and Mrs. Lee Kynett, Lisbon, and three grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Turner mortuary. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
