Rita Ann Fritz, 81, passed away peacefully after a brief illness in Poughkeepsie NY on June 24, 2013. Her home was in New Paltz, NY.

Rita Fritz was a beloved mother, sister and wife. Rita is survived by her husband, Charles (Karl) Fritz, her son Paul Fritz and his wife Debbie, her son Peter Fritz and his wife Molly, her two grandchildren, and her twin sister Rose. She is predeceased by her brothers Joe and Kurt.

Rita met her husband Karl in Winona Minnesota. He was a Chemistry professor and Rita was working on her Master's degree in Art Education. When Rita saw Karl she saw her future life pass before her and she knew they would spend the rest of their lives together. Her vision came true, as they soon married and moved to Wilmington Delaware. Rita went to work as an art teacher, until she gave birth to sons Paul and Peter, at which point Rita took on the role of mother and stay at home artist. In 1969 her family left Delaware and moved to New Jersey where they raised their children. Their home in Basking Ridge was their treasure as they loved working in the yard and caring for their gardens in the company of their much loved Weimaraner. Throughout her life Rita also enjoyed traveling, hiking, bridge and volunteering.

Rita's passion for art continued to grow throughout her life. She could paint, sketch, sculpt and carve with passion and precision. She won many awards and had many invited demonstrations, lectures and commissions. At the end of her career her focus was on rock and wood carving. One of her fondest memories was going to school in Lucca, Italy to learn advanced techniques for carving marble. Rita's philosophy was simple: If you understood the bones, the muscles and everything else about the anatomy, making the sculpture was easy, so she was more familiar with human anatomy than many medical students. She had a "never quit" approach to life, coupled with an appreciation for the beauty in everyday things; and we are so thankful she passed on those qualities to those around her.

Rita was always very generous in her life and so in lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Healing the Children Northeast (HTCNE.org) or Lap4Life (Lap4Life.org).

There will be no visitation or funeral services. Cremation was private at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to The DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc. (845)236-4300, www.didonatofuneralservice.com
