Martha probably died 1871-1880, since Norman's wife in the 1880 census was Amelia, born about 1840 in IL. They lived in Chicago, IL. They were in the 1870 census for Chicago, Ward 4, Cook Co., IL, They were in the 1880 census for Chicago, Cook Co., IL, He was a clerk in the Circuit Court in 1870, and a lawyer in 1880. All the children were born in IL and they were:

1. Cornelia B. Gassette, b.c. 1862.
2. Wirt Gassette, b.c. 1867.
3. Grace Gassette, b.c. 1871."
